Traditionally, a good command of French was always considered one of the main elements of a well-rounded education, and a desirable accomplishment for a cultured young person. Times may have changed but French is still a widely-spoken language within the European Union and in many other countries. At Walthamstow Hall, we still consider it essential that girls should acquire and develop a good knowledge of French, both to communicate with the French-speaking world and, at a later stage in their education, to complement their understanding of other disciplines: History, Politics or Philosophy for example. A competent knowledge of French is also a great asset when choosing a University course, as it is often combined with Business Studies, European Studies, International Politics or Classics to name but a few.
Choosing at least one modern foreign language to study at IGCSE is compulsory.
